PE and Sports Premium

The government is providing funding for primary school sports. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school and academy Head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. The money will be used so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability.

What is our approach to spending the Sports Premium?

At St Patrick's Catholic Primary Academy we believe that all children have an equal opportunity to participate in a broad and balanced curriculum according to their needs, abilities and interests.

Any objectives that school find to be successful, co-coordinators then implement into the school's policies and procedure for the following years to sustain these improvements.

Physical Education and healthy lifestyles are highly valued at St Patrick's. We have a broad and balanced curriculum that ensures all abilities are inspired and educated, strong relationships are nurtured, children are happy to participate in new challenges with a strong emphasis on all pupils succeeding in sport.

Sports Premium has had a big effect on our children's participation and attainment in PE.

Through development with Soccer 2000 coaches we have been able to hold both intra and inter school events. Different year groups have concentrated on different activities and some year groups have been able to compete against other schools.

Years 1 and 2 and specified in Multi Skills competitions, Years 3 and 4 in tri golf and Year 5 and 6 in Athletics.

We also have a thriving football club on a Friday night and we have recently entered the WASPS Football league and compete against other Wolverhampton Primary Schools.

Clubs and activities held at St Patrick's are now starting to be self sufficient. We regularly hold Holiday Playdays in school holidays. Daily charge is £7.50 for a 6 hour sessions which covers all the outgoing costs to the academy. After School clubs currently do not incur a cost but contributions are being looked at for 2020. We use Soccer coaches at lunchtimes - 5 days a week - for various fitness activities and this is in replacement of lunchtime supervisors.

Profile of our clubs and what sports we offer has been raised by the introduction of parent/pupil sports sessions. These have turned out to be very popular and tri golf and archery have proved to be the favourites.

We also run Cool Kids sessions for pupils who have difficulty with fine motor skills. These pupils will have been referred to us from the Gem Centre.
